Description : The Chequers was built in medieval times at the entrance to the market place and is thought to date back to the late 1500s as a pub, when it was identified by a sign of a blue anchor outside.

The name appears to have changed from the 'Anchor' to the Chequers in 1794/5.

Next door is the famous Chipping Norton Theatre, whose performances and annual pantomine draw theatre goers from all over the country.

The main bar is situated amongst four seating areas. In the absence of any electronic games machines, pool tables or juke boxes, the traditional pub styling of yesteryear is recalled.

A blazing log fire in the winter creates a cosy atmosphere.

As a Fuller's House, the Chiswick Bitter, London Pride, ESB and a seasonally changing guest beer are all served in perfect condition. The Chequers has been awarded the Cask Marque of excellence and the landlord Jim Hopcraft ensures they are in the best possible condition. Other drinks include Carling and Grolsch lagers, Strongbow cider, organic Honeydew and draught Guinness.
