Portsmouth Pubs and Bars - Still and West, Old Portsmouth PO1 2JL - Welcome

The Still and West is an iconic pub situated in Old Portsmouth. It originally started life as the “Still Tavern”; first recorded in 1733. The name “Still” coming from whistling “The Still” with a bosun pipe. Bath Square was traditionally where local people come to bathe.

“The Poynt” was outside the city walls of Old Portsmouth. At one period there were over 40 ale houses and taverns where now only 3 remain. Known as “Spice Island”, it was the haunt of fishermen, sailors and smugglers. As you can imagine it was a very lively area!

In 1882, John Main of the “Still Tavern” married Elizabeth Long of the “East and West Country House”, also in Bath Square, and in 1903 the pub was renamed the “Still and West Country House”.

It has a superb waterfront location, offering excellent food, which reflects value for money, enhanced by a team of enthusiastic, professional people offering the best customer service in the industry. Catering to the needs of our customers and exceeding their expectations.
